Antique Mamluk Revival (Cairoware) Box with Silver and Copper Inlay
$0.00
Completely hand-hammered and engraved, this large and beautifully incised brass box was probably made in Syria, and features finely wrought calligraphic and geometric inlay, crafted in silver and copper, typical of the Middle East. Mamluk revival work was produced during the 19th C and early 20th C, in both Syria and Egypt, often by Jewish craftsmen who were attempting to recreate the lavish and extravagant workmanship of the Islamic middle ages. 8.5” x 5.5” x 3.25” H.
