Antique Mamluk Revival (Cairoware) Box

$0.00

Completely hand-hammered and engraved, this exceptionally large and beautifully incised brass document box was most likely made in Syria, and features finely wrought calligraphic and floral engravings typical of the Middle East. Mamluk revival work was produced during the 19th C and very early 20th C, in both Syria and Egypt, often by Jewish craftsmen who were attempting to recreate the lavish and extravagant workmanship of the Islamic middle ages. In excellent condition. 7” x 7” x 6.6”
