Antique Algerian Wool Tapestry in Red

$0.00

This exceptional and rare woven cover was made in Algeria, by Berber tribeswomen, c. 1910. Today, this sophisticated weaving tradition has largely disappeared in Algeria. Large, finely woven with soft wool, this piece was most likely made to be used as a bench or divan cover, using a tapestry technique known as ‘rollakan’ (this is the Swedish term for it), where the colors overlap to create a perfectly smooth surface, without the slits typically found on Turkish kilims. Condition is excellent. 54.5” x 86”
